Fatwa CenterProviding security for parties where alcohol is served
Question
I have my own security team and sometimes I provide security to private parties where alcohol is serving. I would like to know if the money I earn from this parties is Haraam?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
One of the Islamic rules from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet 
is that it is not permissible to help in committing sin under any circumstance. Allaah says (which means): {Help you one another in virtue, righteousness and piety; but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allaah. Verily, Allaah is Severe in punishment.}[5:2]. Guarding places where intoxicants are served is a way of promoting their use and consumption, so it is not permissible to guard these places or to take money for such work because they are wages obtained by helping to commit sin. For the wages to be valid and acceptable, the scholars
set a condition that wages should not be for doing something that is forbidden. Therefore, the money that you get from guarding these places is forbidden and you should get rid of this money.
